Privacy Policy
1 — Who we are
BLACK KNOT ANALYTICS is an independent educational platform operated by its founder. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it. We take your privacy seriously and collect only what is necessary to operate the service.
2 — What we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. This is the minimum information required to establish and manage your access to the platform.
Usage data. We collect basic, anonymised data about how the platform is accessed — including browser type, device type, and pages visited — for the purposes of platform security and performance monitoring. This data is not linked to individual identities.
3 — How we use your information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Deliver access to the platform and its content.
- Communicate with you about your account, including service notices and any material changes to these policies.
- Maintain the security and integrity of the platform.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the operation of the service.
4 — What we do not do
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose your personal information to any third party for commercial purposes. We do not use your data to serve targeted advertising of any kind.
5 — Third-party service providers
We engage a small number of third-party service providers to operate the platform — specifically for platform hosting. These providers are contractually bound to process your data only as directed by us and in accordance with applicable privacy law. We do not share your data with any provider beyond what is necessary for these operational purposes.
6 — Data retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account remains active. Following account closure, we retain basic account records for a period of two years for administrative and legal compliance purposes, after which they are deleted. Anonymised usage data may be retained indefinitely.
7 — Your rights
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request corrections, or request deletion, subject to any legal retention obligations. You may also withdraw consent to receive non-essential communications at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
8 — Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9 — Governing law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the applicable federal privacy legislation of Canada, including PIPEDA. If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you may have additional rights under the GDPR or UK GDPR respectively. Please contact us to exercise those rights.
10 — Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or by a notice on the platform prior to the change taking effect. Continued use of the platform following notice of a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
